New Blogging Format

I’ve been spending a bit of time the last few days working on converting my blog over to WordPress, which I’ ve seen several other people using recently. For the first time, I have a server where I can install my own PHP files, finally making this possible. I also learned enough about Apache rewrites so that all the old links to my Blogger blog still work, and will show you the same page that you would have seen. The template should continue to change over the next few days, because most of the ones out there wind up with the sidebar way under the rest of the blog. The one I have now’s okay, but it’s not my favorite, and the sidebar looks strange..

  1. WOHOO!!! You’ve joined us on the dark side!

I know what you mean about the flippin’ sidebar issue. I’m always concerned that mine’s going to look like that on someone else’s monitor, even though it looks right on mine.

You’ll have a blast trying out new themes and customizing them. I know I did.

  2. Yep–still figuring out the options, though. I didn’t realize that I had it set to require comment moderation, and that is now removed. Unless I get spammed, it will stay gone. Themes look like they can be fun–I found a few hnudred, and now will begin looking through them.

  3. There is a way to set it up so that certain words will trigger moderation, or a certain number of links, but will allow most comments through without moderation. So far, it has worked just fine for me. I’ve only been spammed twice (in one day, at the same time grrr), but it caught it without a problem.
